Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu Netanyahu, has made an emotional visit to Uganda’s Entebbe airport.

Forty-years ago Israeli commandos launched a raid to free Israeli hostages taken captive on Air France flight 139 from Tel Aviv to Paris.

During the rescue Yonatan Netanyahu, the elder brother of the current Israeli prime minister,was killed.

Netanyahu said:“When terrorism succeeds in one place, it spreads to other places and when terrorism is defeated anywhere it is weakened everywhere. That is why Entebbe was more than an Israeli victory, it was a victory for all humanity in the fight against those that threaten our common civilisation,”

The plane with 248 passengers on board was hijacked by two members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and two militants from the German Revolutionary Cells.

The captors separated the Israelis and non-Israeli Jews and released the remaining passengers.

One hundred commandos rescued 102 hostages in a 90- minute operation.

All the hijackers, three hostages and forty-five Ugandan soldiers along with Yonatan Netanyahu were killed in the raid.
