Ride-hailing service Uber has expanded its alliance with the Chinese online payment platform Alipay, which has 450 million users.

The new deal means Chinese travelers can use the Alipay app to call for cars and pay for rides in over 400 cities worldwide where Uber operates.

That eliminates the need for dual currency credit cards or currency conversions.

It is an expansion of already existing partnerships between the two in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

This could help Uber in its battle with China’s Didi Kuaidi to gain market share there.

Didi Kuaidi has also taken stakes in ride-hailing apps GrabTaxi in Southeast Asia and Ola in India, where each also competes with Uber
