Colombia’s Nairo Quintana has emerged victorious on stage two of the Tour de Romandie.

He took the leader’s jersey after Ilnur Zakarin was demoted to second place for changing his line in the sprint to the finish.

Qiuntana and Zakarin were in a pair for the final five kilometres or so.

With 300 metres to go, Qiuntana made his getaway sprint. Zakarin responded, drifted out on the final bend and was first across the line.

But the final result was ultimately reversed – Quintana was bumped up on the winners podium, the bonus seconds putting him 18 up on Zakarin in the overall standings.
