Struggling French first division side Marseille have sacked coach Michel following a disastrous season that has left the Mediterranean side down the table in 15th place, six point above the drop zone with four games left to play.

Spaniard Michel took over from Marcelo Bielsa in August last year.

He will be replaced for the remainder of the season by assistant coach Franck Passi

Marseille have not won at home in the league since the 13th of September and are on a club record 14-game winless streak at the Stade Velodrome.

They last enjoyed success in Ligue 1 at the start of February when they beat Montpellier on the road.

Marseille can still end the season with some silverware however as they travel to second division side Sochaux for a French Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
