LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love all starred for the home side combining for 81 points between them on the night.
Irving scored 31 points, Love added 28 while James chipped in with 22 points as last season’s Eastern Conference champions won through 106-101.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored a team hight 21 points for the Pistons in defeat.
Game two of this playoff stays in Cleveland at the Quicken Loans Arena and takes place on Wednesday night.
