Denmark's selfie-loving first female prime minister moves on to pastures new

Tuesday March 29 is the last day in the Danish parliament for the country’s former Prime Minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt

She is due to take up a new position as head of “Save the Children International” in London.

The leader of Denmark’s social democrats was elected the first female Prime Minister of Denmark in 2011.

She lost the position to Lars Løkke Rasmussen from the Venstre party in 2015.

Thorning-Schmidt will be remembered for posing for a “selfie” with US President Barack Obama and UK Prime Minister David Cameron at the memorial service for Nelson Mandela in 2013. ### Did you know?
