Hosts of this year’s ICC World T20, India, suffered a shock opening round defeat at the hands of New Zealand.

New Zealand had never lost to India in the shortest format of the game but that looked in danger after they were restricted to 126 for seven, having decided to bat first.

But New Zealand’s spinners came to the rescue in fine fashion in the Super 10, Group 2 match.

India lost their nine wickets to the spin trio of Michael Santner, Ish Sodhi and Nathan McCullum.

The hosts and pre-tournament favourites could only muster 79 runs before being all out.

Not only did it maintain New Zealand’s perfect record against India it ended their opposition’s seven-match winning streak.
