The speed skater was banned for doping by the International Skating Union in 2009.

Pechstein has long protested her innocence and in January a German court overturned the decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which upheld the ISU verdict.

The decision allows the skater to challenge the doping ban and sue the ISU for €4.4m in loss of earnings.

The case is being heard at Germany’s Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe.
