The red carpet rodeo that is the Oscars is over for another year and it is time to count the cost.

After all they do call it show business!

By the way, that red carpet costs $25,000 (20,000 euros) and it gets used for two years running.

The iconic statues handed out on stage are 24-karat gold-plated bronze and cost an estimated $870 (800 euros) each.

Security – to keep Oscar-goers safe and gate-crashers out – is estimated to run to at least $250,000 (230,000 euros) with over 500 police officers, private security guards and, of course, stars’ bodyguards.

Following the ceremony the winners head to the Governors Ball, the only official after-party.

This year the offerings included 10 kilos of caviar, 6,500 of the traditional Oscar shaped mini-pizzas and 40 Alaska king crabs, which cost up to $500 (460 euros) each.

It was all washed down with 1,000 bottles of champagne – magnums, of course.

The cost of the whole event is more than $43 million (40 million euros) but according to their annual report the organisers make a profit by selling TV rights at $75 million (69 million euros) a year, sponsorship and even seats for the ceremony itself.

Studios are allocated tickets, but attendees still must pay for them and the best seats cost $750 (690 euros) each.
