A Michigan State Police spokesman said a “strong suspect” is in custody after a gunman shot and killed six people in three separate attacks in Kalamazoo County, Michigan. Earlier reports had suggested there were four shooting locations.
One of the dead is understood to have been an eight-year-old child who was eating at a Cracker Barrel restaurant.
At least three people have been wounded: a nine-year-old girl is in hospital in critical condition and a woman is in serious condition, according to police.
Police are optimistic that the threat to public safety is over.
