FIFA’s ethics committee has warned and fined Germany’s World Cup-winning captain and coach Franz Beckenbauer for stonewalling an investigation.

The 70-year-old, who was a voter when Russia and Qatar were chosen to host the World Cup, was fined 6300 euros after he failed to cooperate with their investigation regarding the 2018 and 2022 tournament bids.

Beckenbauer, who is currently implicated in claims of misconduct by Germany’s bidding team to host the 2006 World Cup, had already been suspended for 90 days in 2014 when he failed to answer questions regarding the Garcia report.
