Sunderland and England midfielder Adam Johnson has pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a minor and one count of grooming when he appeared at Bradford Crown Court on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old admitted to kissing a 15-year-old schoolgirl after having groomed her over the internet.
Johnson – who has earned 12 caps for England – denied two other charges of sexual activity with a child.
Johnson began his footballing career at Middlesbrough in 2004.
He then signed with Manchester City in 2010 and two years later joined Sunderland, who suspended the player following his arrest in March last year but that was lifted a fortnight later after he posted bail.
Johnson’s trial begins on Friday.
