Isabelle Carré plays a Parisian, who has come to bury her mother whom she hardly knew. In the village, she meets a bunch of rather colourful characters.
Among them is Pattie, who used to look after her mother, and who won’t stop talking about her busy sex life in great detail. Karin Viard embodies this lively character to perfection.
Things get complicated when the body of the deceased disappears before the funeral.
The dialogue is quite graphic and the summer heat is conducive to a certain communion of bodies. But this film by the Larrieu brothers is deeper than that.
The directors offer an unusual take on death but also on the rebirth of those left behind, especially the daughter of the deceased who regains a taste for life and its pleasures.
