Up to 15 feet waves hit the shores Oahu in Hawaii as 32 competitions battled in out in the Banzai Pipeline invitational qualifier this week.

Incredible barrels and disastrous wipeouts were on the menu.

But so was a stunning display by 17-year-old rising star Jack Robinson, who has won the rookie of the year award.

The Australian turned in one excellent score of 9.43 to claim victory ahead of former Pipe Master and local surfer Jamie O’Brien.

Both men have now punched their ticket for this week’s main event at the same location – the season-ending Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons.
