Barcelona raced into the last 16 of the Champions League in emphatic style on Tuesday evening after handing Roma a footballing master class in Group E.

Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi both scored a brace while Gerard Pique and Adriano added two more as the defending champions steamrolled their Italian opponents 6-1.

Elsewhere in the Group BATE Borisov and Bayer Leverkusen drew 1-1 leaving a three-way battle for the runners up spot with one round of matches left.

Alexis Sanchez scored twice and Mesut Ozil once as Arsenal beat Dinamo Zagreb to keep alive their hopes of making it out of Group F and into the next stage.

The Gunners’ chances were helped along by Bayern Munich after the Germans qualified with a 4-0 thrashing of Olympiakos, who Arsenal face in a winner takes all final match.

Chelsea moved top of Group G courtesy a comfortable 4-0 victory at 10-man Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Gary Cahill, Willian, Oscar and Kurt Zouma were all on target for the Blues who are now level on 10 points with Porto who lost to Dynamo Kyiv on the night.

Porto and Chelsea meet in the final round of matches.

Oleg Shatov and Artem Dzyuba both scored to hand Group H winners Zenit St Petersburg a 2-0 win over Valencia.

It was the Russians fifth win from five outings.

Meanwhile Kalifa Coulibaly scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to hand second-placed Ghent a 2-1 win over Lyon and send the French side to the exit door.
