Two-time reigning World Cup overall champion Anna Fenninger has been ruled out of the upcoming alpine skiing season following a training crash on Wednesday.

The Austrian ski federation announced the 26-year-old had sustained a fracture of the collateral and the anterior cruciate ligament of her right knee.

Olympic super-G champion and the World champion in the super-G and giant slalom also suffered a tear of the patellar tendon which must also be treated surgically.

The women’s Alpine skiing World Cup season starts on Saturday with a giant slalom in Soelden, Austria, where Fenninger tied for the victory last year.
