Diego Costa will have to sit out Chelsea’s next three matches after a Football Association charge of violent conduct was upheld.

The player had denied the charge after an incident in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over London rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The 26-year-old put his hands in Laurent Koscielny’s face. He then clashed with Arsenal defender Gabriel who was sent off by referee Mike Dean for violent conduct. But the Arsenal player has now had his ban overturned.

The striker will now miss Chelsea’s League Cup match at Walsall on Wednesday and Premier League games against Newcastle and Southampton.
