Bert van Marwijk has been named the new coach of Saudi Arabia.

The Dutch trainer, who led the Netherlands to the 2010 World Cup finals, has signed a one year contract.

His first game in charge will be a World Cup qualifier on September 3 at home to East Timor.

Lederhosen and beer

Meanwhile, over in Germany the Bayern Munich players slipped on their lederhosen for a team photo to celebrate the club’s sponsorship by a local brewery.

Pep Guardiola’s side have had plenty to smile about after winning both their league openers this season.

A day to forget

The same could not be said for the Qatari champions Lekhwiya who lost the first leg of their AFC Champions League quarter-final against Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia.

It was a day to forget for the team’s goalkeeper, but most of all for an embarrasing mistake that resulted in his goal kick hitting the Al Hilal striker on the head. It then looped back over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

The game ended Al Hilal 4 Lekhwiya 1.
