A thorough inquiry is underway in the UK after it was revealed the personal details of up to 2.4 million mobile phone customers may have been accessed by hackers.

The breach concerns subsidiaries of the high street retailer Carphone Warehouse and is thought to involve names, addresses and dates of birth.

It’s feared up to 90,000 people may also have had their credit card information compromised.

The breach was discovered on Wednesday afternoon but could have occurred anytime in the two weeks prior to that.

The company says it is contacting all customers who may have been affected.
