Flights are now back to normal at the UK’s biggest airport after a protest led to some cancellations.

Angry at plans for a third runway at Heathrow, members of the direct action group “Plane Stupid” chained themselves together across a runway already in use.

13 flights were cancelled during the seven-hour interruption. Heathrow says operations are now back to normal.

UPDATE: All protesters safely removed & runways operating as normal. Passengers are advised to check flight status for delays/cancellations.

Concerns have been voiced over security after it emerged the group cut through a perimeter fence to gain access.
