Afghanistan’s top ISIL commander has been killed by a US air strike in the east of the country, officials claim.

Hafez Saeed would be the fourth ex-Taliban militant declaring loyalty to the jihadist group to be killed in the space of a week.

Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security (NDS) says he died alongside 30 other militants who had gathered in the district of Achin in the eastern Nagarhar province.

No further details about the attack have been released.
