Far from the fighting in Ukraine’s east, some of the children of soldiers in Donbas are being treated to a summer camp unlike any other in the luxury residence of former President Viktor Yanukovch.

“Yanukovych, our former President, used to live here,” explained camp attendee Dymtro. “We saw his house, his gym, his zoo and a beautiful waterfall. When I saw it, my jaw dropped to the ground!”

Free transportation shuttles children of soldiers to the so-called Eurocamp, volunteers say it offers them vital relief from their home lives.

“The children of Ukrainian soldiers are very vulnerable,” explained Nataliya Stepanova, volunteer/Kyiv ATO veterans union. “Many of them are withdrawn. The fathers of some kids are in Donbas and they live with mothers who suffer from anxiety. And some kids have lost their fathers.”

Our correspondent said:

“Those kids whose fathers were killed in Donbas will receive psychological help here. The youngest ones will take a course of therapy involving horses.”

There should be no shortage of entertainment.

The residence comprises a private cinema, bowling alley, tennis courts, a golf course and a private zoo featuring several of the former leader’s prized ostriches.
