Azerbaijan continued their fine medal haul on home soil at the inaugural European Games in Baku.

Mariya Stadnyk sent the partizan crowd into wild celebrations when she won the women’s -48 kilo Freestyle Wrestling gold.

The Ukrainian-born 27-year-old who changed nationalities in 2007 dominated the final against Bulgaria’s Elitsa Yankova.

Elsewhere on the fourth day of competition Sebastien Brendel won the men’s Conoe single 1000 metre title.

Germany’s reigning Olympic champion paddled over the line and to the top of the podium ahead of Czech Martin Fuksa while Attila Vajda of Hungary completed the podium.
