A fresh powerful burst of searing gas has been thrown hundreds of metres into the air from a volcano in western Indonesia.

The latest eruption on Mount Sinabung on Sumatra, one of the country’s main islands comes after authorities placed it on high alert last week. They said they are monitoring the volcano which has been spewing out smoke and ash since last Monday.
