France produced a stunning performance to down Russia in the final of the European Fencing Championships in Montreux, Switzerland on Tuesday.
Jérémy Cadot and Julien Mertine proved too strong for their opponents as Les Bleus prevailed 45-35 in the showpiece match, giving them a major boost ahead of the World Championships which get underway in Moscow on July 13.
In the women’s event, Romania retained their European crown following a 45-35 triumph over Estonia.
Ana Maria Branza’s team-mates outclassed Sweden in the semis before carrying their momentum in the final with yet another solid display.
The bronze medals were won by Italy and Sweden.
