Former All Black Jerry Collins and wife Alana Madill have died in a crash after their car was struck by a bus outside the southern French town of Beziers on Friday.

Their three-month old daughter was pulled from the wreckage and remains in critical condition in a hospital in Montpellier.

According to reports, Collins was on the A9 motorway when his car came to an unexplained stop, before being hit by a bus from Portugal with around 20 passengers on board.

Born in Samoa, the 34-year-old played 74 games for the Hurrricanes and 50 for the All Blacks, including 48 tests, before retiring after the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
