Microsoft has announced the arrival of Windows 10 on 29 July.
It will be released as a free upgrade for users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
New PCs and tablets running Windows 10 will also go on sale on 29 July.
Windows 10 for other devices such as smartphones will be available later this year, according to Microsoft.
The new version of the operating system will bring back more familiar elements from Windows 7 and combine them with the modern look of Windows 8.1.
It also features a new browser called ‘Edge’, among several features aimed at winning over mobile users.
Windows 10 also keeps the Start menu – which was scrapped for Windows 8 and quickly brought back for the 8.1 update.
