Unidentified gunmen have killed at least 19 passengers they forced off two buses in southwest Pakistan.

It happened in the restive province of Balochistan, where separatists have been fighting a low-level insurgency for decades. Islamist militants are also active there.

Five passengers were rescued by security forces, according to local authorities.

The attacks, which left several people injured, have been condemned by the government of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
