After weeks of speculation, double world champion Lewis Hamilton has extended his contract with current championship leaders Mercedes.

The 30-year-old, who had recently been linked with a shock move to Ferrari, settled on a deal which will see him earn around 140 million euros over the next three years, becoming Britain’s highest-paid sportsman.

Hamilton currently holds a 20-point lead over team-mate Nico Rosberg after five of the championship’s 19 rounds while Mercedes are top of the manufacturers rankings going into Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix.
