Congratulations shone out from many UK landmarks for Britain’s Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their new royal baby girl.
London’s BT Tower proclaimed ‘it’s a Girl’ in pink lights to mark the occasion.
Some fans of the royal family camped outside the hospital where Kate gave birth, erupted with excitement at the news.
“I’m over the moon for them and I think Prince Charles said he would love a little grand-daughter and Prince Harry said he would love it if William had a little girl and Prince George has got a little sister now, so that is fantastic, they have completed their family now- boy, girl,” said royal fan Maria Scott.
“It’s a girl, it’s a girl, and it’s fantastic, because every woman and every little girl loves a princess,” said Australian tourist Kerry Macklen from Canberra.

While London and Britain celebrated, a Royal Navy ship sent out a message of congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall from the Atlantic Ocean.
Sailors stood on the deck of HMS Lancaster in a formation to spell out the word “sister”.
