Rescue teams have pulled a man from a collapsed apartment block in Kathmandu – 80 hours after an earthquake ravaged the landlocked Himalayan country.

Rishi Khanal spent nearly three-and-a-half days trapped in a room with three dead bodies and seemingly without food.

A joint Nepali-French operation rescued the 28-year-old, who had been on the second floor of a seven-storey building when the earthquakestruck.

Rescuers drilled down to him after he shouted for help and responded to questions in Nepali.

The rescue took five hours and doctors say Khanal may have suffered a broken leg.

The 7.9 magnitude earthquake has killed more than 5,000 people.
