Apple’s much-trumpeted watch has gone on sale globally at selected high-end retailers and flagship stores.
But from Tokyo to Berlin to Los Angeles there appeared to be little of the mass queueing and near-hysteria that has greeted other product releases from the celebrated company.
However there are diehard brand fans who cannot wait to sport one on their wrist.
“We live at a time when Apple has, effectively, been able to create a need for its products. First with the ipad, and now the Apple watch which has created a whole market for connected watches,” said one French buyer.
One place you will not find them is in Apple’s own stores. Customers are being directed to online sales.
The watch’s tough resin casing has also prevented dismantling experts from taking a look inside until now, and sales estimates have been upgraded to 20 million units, although an orders backlog means some people may wait two months for their watches.
