Facebook costs score no likes as figures disappoint


Huge jumps in operating and R&D costs at Facebook have slowed quarterly revenue growth to its lowest in two years

The social media giant warned 2015 would be investment-heavy, but the jumps, at 83 and 133 percent respectively, are eye-popping.

Marketing and sales spending also doubled as Facebook tries to expand its product range, but monthly active users also grew by 13% to now stand at 1.44 billion, with 87% of them accessing the network with mobile devices.

Foreign exchange rates due to the strong U.S. dollar will likely cut revenue in the current quarter by more than the 10 percent it saw in Q1.
