Firefighters are battling a brush fire in Apple Vally which lies about 140 km east of Los Angeles . Mandatory evacuations were ordered in the area

Firefighters are battling a brush fire in Apple Vally which lies about 140 km east of Los Angeles .

Mandatory evacuations were ordered in the area after officials warned the blaze was spreading and was not yet under control.

Around 100 buildings are said to be in the path of the fire which is being whipped up by strong winds.

Residents grew angry after rumours that the fire began as a control burn that got out of hand.
However the local fire department chief has denied this.
