Winter storms are once again battering parts of Atlantic Canada with high winds and heavy snow falls.

Halifax is almost completely shut down, with all transport pulled off the roads and government buildings and universities closed for the day.

There are warnings that much of the region could be hit by near-zero visibility conditions and with wind gusts of up to 60 kilometers an hour.

Environment Canada says central and eastern Nova Scotia, Cape Breton and eastern Prince Edward Island are expected to receive the brunt of the storm, with more than 20 to 30 centimeters expected to accumulate by the evening.
