Thousands of Italian tourist guides have been protesting in Rome.

They are angry about government changes to the examination and registration system, which will mean that guides can work all over the country, rather than just in particular regions.

To date, for example, guides working in Rome have not been permitted to work in Florence.

Demonstrators have also criticised the axing of a police section in Rome, which has been checking and fining illegal guides.
