Residents of one of Brazil’s most dangerous slums launched a street protest on Monday against a recent increase in violence.

They say that at least one person is shot by police in Rio de Janeiro’s Mare favela complex every day.

They claim innocent bystanders are getting caught up in a police crackdown on criminal gangs.

Mare is home to around 130,000 people, making it one of the largest slums in Rio.
