The 87th Academy Awards ceremony took place in the early hours of the morning European time. In case you didn’t catch it, here are five things you might want to know.
NPH
Host Neil Patrick Harris was generally considered to be underwhelming
NPH's hosting is starting to make me a little sad

David Oyelowo's meh gesture is all of us. #Oscars2015

However at one point he was definitely underdressed. If you’re watching on demand it’s about 1 hour 15 minutes in, though whether you want to skip to it or skip over it is up to you
Prety sure you're supposed to imagine the audience in their underwear NPH, not vice versa ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ #Oscarspic.twitter.com/rBEINNnmOR

Lego is awesome
The Lego Movie went incredibly post-modern by using actors to perform the parts of Lego characters who were performing the parts of actors. In a sort-of-advert for a film which was a sort-of-advert.

Hugs
Jennifer Anniston gave an implausibly big hug to Emma Stone.

In other hugs there was a touching embrace between Lady Gaga and Julie Andrews, after the former had sung The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music

Equality
Lots of actresses wore dazzling frocks and all were asked about them, despite the #askhermore campaign to treat female stars with the same professional respect as their male colleagues.
Patricia Arquette’s acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress was probably the best received of the night as she challenged women to assert their rights to equal pay “To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights, it’s our time to have wage equality once and for all, and equal rights for women in the United States of America.”
Remembered and forgotten
Robin Williams was remembered
Robin Williams in the #Oscars2015 In Memoriam still so sad. The heavy price of funny: http://t.co/jWzQcEdmHKpic.twitter.com/h7Z6CKkMGf

But Joan Rivers was forgotten
Where was #JoanRivers in the memorial mentions. Just saying. Jb

And the awards
The highly-tipped American Sniper claimed only a gong for best sound editing, while the team from Boyhood may also be disappointed only to have collected the Best Supporting Actress role for Patricia Arquette. The big winners were Grand Budapest Hotel which dominated the technical categories with four awards and Birdman which was awarded Best Film and Best Director in its haul of four. Eddie Redmayne took best actor for The Theory of Everything while Julianne Moore was best actress in Still Alice
