Dirty Birds?: NFL Investigating Falcons for Bringing The Noise

The Atlanta Falcons are being investigated by the National Football League for using "artificial" crowd noise during their games.

As first reported on ESPN's Postseason NFL Countdown, the Falcons are alleged to have played "artificial" crowd noise when visiting teams were on offense in 2013 and 2014 — although it was not clear which games at the Georgia Dome were included in the span.

Falcons officials confirmed the investigation with NBC News and gave a statement to NBC Atlanta affiliate WXIA, saying: "We were informed during the season that the league office is looking into crowd noise during our games. We have cooperated fully with them, and we're awaiting the outcome."

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy refused comment on the reports and would only say, "speak to the team for its comment."

A league source said the investigation is likely to conclude within the next 2-3 weeks.
