Slovenia’s Peter Prevc won his first World Cup ski jump event of the season and first in just under a year on Saturday.

Slovenia’s Peter Prevc won his first World Cup ski jump event of the season and first in just under a year on Saturday.

The reigning small hill world cup champion leaped to the top of the podium following a night competition in Sapporo, Japan.

He jumped 130 and 131 metres for a combined 276.4 points.

The result means that Prevc now sits second in the overall World Cup standings.

93 points in front of Prevc in the race for the world cup title is recently crowned 4-Hills Tournament champion Stefan Kraft who was second in Sapporo.

The Austrian was just over five points off the pace following jumps of 127.5 and 131 metres.

Roman Koudelka of the Czech Republic was third after amassing 269.3 points with jumps of 127.5 and 130.5 metres
