We hit the rewind button in this edition of Learning World to follow up on poignant and moving stories that featured in earlier episodes of the series.
Over the years this programme has frequently focused on inspiring people who have overcome massive challenges to get an education. Of course, their stories did not end there and our reporting teams set out to find out how the central figures of two stories have been getting on since we last met them.
In the first we travel to a remote mountain top in Colombia where children of an isolated village were obliged to undertake a dangerous and dizzying highwire act to get to their school on the opposite side of a deep canyon. Local people had been campaigning for solutions for the unique problem faced by the ‘niños del cable.’
We also catch up with a determined and courageous young Somali woman who fought for educational rights for girls in Africa. She is now trying to carve out a new life for herself in the United States. After helping herself to get an education there she set out to assist other immigrants facing the same daunting challenge.
