Assets worth 100 million euros seized in big anti-mafia case

<p>There has been a dramatic development in an anti-mafia case in Italy.</p> <p>Financial police say they have seized assets worth more than 100 million euros from a businessman arrested over claims of mafia activity. </p> <p>Over the past few weeks a dozen people have been taken into custody in raids in the capital, where it is alleged the mafia has taken over lucrative City of Rome contracts.</p> <p>Assets seized in the latest raids include stakes in companies, plots of land and at least 180 properties.</p> <p>The businessman, Cristiano Guarnera, is one of 100 people under investigation. </p> <p>Another person implicated in the inquiry is former centre-right mayor Gianni Alemanno.</p>
