Champions League: Atletico, Leverkusen and Arsenal into last 16


Atletico Madrid booked their ticket into the champions league last 16 following a 4-0 thrashing of Olympiakos in Group A’s penultimate round of matches.

Mario Mandzukic scored a hat-trick for the Spanish champions.

Second placed Juventus put one foot in the knockout phase with a 2-0 victory over Malmo.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner as defending champions and already-qualified Real Madrid beat Basel 1-0 in Switzerland.

Struggling Liverpool were held to a disappointing two all draw at Ludogorets but could still qualify if they beat second placed Basel in the final round of group matches.

Monaco beat leaders Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 in Group C thanks to a 72nd minute goal by Lucas Ariel Ocampos.

But the Germans qualified for the last 16 after Zenit St. Petersburg beat Benfica by the same scoreline earlier in the day.

Monaco and Zenit will battle it out to join Leverkusen in last 16 spot in the final Group match.

Yaya Sanogo scored his first goal for Arsenal as they defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 to advance to the next phase with the Germans.

Alexis Sanchez scored the Gunners’ second.

Elsewhere Anderlecht beat fellow eliminated Galatasaray 2-0 to make it into the Europa League as third placed finishers.
