Nigeria: Boko Haram seizes Chibok town

Militant group Boko Haram have reportedly seized the Nigerian town of Chibok.

Meanwhile 500 km away in Kano a suicide bomber bomb has killed six people including three police officers.

Kano city has been the scene of several bombings by Boko Haram in the past.

The group has ransacked the north of the country and killed thousands of people during a five-year-long insurgency aimed at creating an Islamic caliphate in Nigeria’s northeast.

The radical Islamist group abducted 200 schoolgirls from Chibok in April.

The group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, recently claimed the girls had converted to Islam and been married off.

Boko Haram means “Western Education is Sinful” in Hausa. The militant group has abducted more than 500 girls since 2009.
