In July Germany’s national team won international football’s most coveted prize – the World Cup.
On Monday those same players were rewarded for their achievements at home.
President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel presented players of the ‘Die Mannschaft’ with the Silver Laurel Leaf – Germany’s highest honor for sports.
Apart from Julian Draxler and Andre Schürrle the entire squad and staff were present to receive their awards in person.
The ceremony took place at the head of state’s Bellevue Palace and came a day after the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Germany’s fourth World Cup triumph at this summer’s event in Brazil was its first as a reunited nation.
West Germany won the title shortly before the 1990 reunification.
