The APEC Summit ministerial meeting is underway in Beijing.
The summit is the first big international event China has hosted under President Xi Jinping’s leadership.
Topping the agenda are plans to set up a free trade zone and an initiative to crack down on corruption.
But perhaps the most interesting discussions will take place in bilateral meetings on the summit sidelines.
US secretary of State John Kerry will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov later on Saturday.
They are expected to talk about the Ukraine crisis.
To ensure clean air during the summit, some industrial factories as far as 200 kilometres away have been closed.
Driving restrictions are in place around the capital and neighbouring cities to reduce traffic and cut Beijing’s notorious smog.
The city unveiled a raft of similar ‘clean air’ measures when it hosted the 2008 Olympics.
