Holders Real and Dortmund qualify for Champions League last 16


Holders Real Madrid made sure of their progression to the last 16 from Group B following a one nil win over Liverpool.

Karim Benzema struck the winner on 27 minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu to hand the Spaniards their fourth win from four.

They have a maximum 12 points, six clear of Basel who thrashed Ludogorets 4-0 in Switzerland.

Despite struggling on the domestic scene Borussia Dortmund joined Real in the last 16 in Europe with two games to spare after enjoying a 4-1 home win over Galatasaray in Group D.

Arsenal meanwhile let slip a three nil lead to draw with Anderlecht which put the Gunners’ last 16 celebrations on ice.

Juventus came from behind to beat Olympiakos 3-2 in their fourth Group A match in Italy to edge closer to a spot in the knockout stages of Europe’s top club competition.

They are second in the table three points behind leaders Atletico Madrid who notched up a 2-0 away win against the Swede’s of Malmo.

Bayer Leverkusen maintained their push to qualify out of group C after beating Zenit St. Petersburg 2-1 in Russia.

Heung-Min Son scored both goals for the Germans to keep them top four points clear of Monaco who lost one nil at Benfica – Anderson Talisca on target for Jorge Jesus’ men.
