Prospect of further train strikes in Germany as talks collapse

Text size Aa Aa

Talks between Germany’s rail operator Deutsche Bahn and the GDL train drivers’ union have collapsed with the prospect of future strikes looming.

The GDL wants a five percent pay rise for its train drivers and a shortened work week from 39 to 37 hours. It says it is now considering a strike that would last for nearly four days.

In October the union went out on a sixty hour strike over a weekend leaving millions stranded at the beginning of their holidays.
