Day two of Judo Grand Slam Abu Dhabi


Day two of the Judo Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi saw the middleweights battle it out for gold.

The first final pitted World Number four Anicka Van Emden of the Netherlands against World number five Tina Trstenjak of Slovenia in the -63 kilo class.

After two minutes Trstenjak was celebrating gold having immobilized her opponent for ippon.

Top seed Laura Vargas Koch celebrated gold in the -70 kilo division.

The German judoka beat Bernadette Graf of Austria courtesy of two yuko scores.

Rok Draksic of Slovenia and Rustam Orujov of Azerbaijan won bronze in the -73kilo category.

Dex Elmont of the Netherlands meanwhile claimed an easy gold when his final opponent Musa Mogushkov withdrew through injury.

The last final of the day opposed the two favorites of the category, Antoine Valois-Fortier of Canada and the 2009 World Champion Ivan Nifontov of Russia.

After one minute, Nifontov struck gold when he immobilized his opponent for ippon.
