Wozniacki leaves the racket at home to run the New York Marathon

Tennis star Caroline Wozniacki is changing sports as she prepares to pound the streets of New York in her first ever marathon.

The Dane, who is running to raise funds for New York Road Runners, said:” I’m a little nervous. It’s going to be the first time that I’m gonna run so far, but I think that it’s going to be an unbelievable experience. And I love New York and the New York City Marathon has always been on my bucket list. And it’s a perfect time for my schedule as well. It’s after my season is done and just because I haven’t been active enough during the year, I thought why now start off my vacation with running a marathon.”

The New York Road Runners Youth and Community Services programmes provide free or low-cost health and fitness opportunities for kids who might not have access to regular physical activity.

Wozniacki says she is committed to the project.
